The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA - www.ncqa.org) is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. The NCQA accreditation process is a nationally recognized evaluation system that purchasers, regulators, and consumers can use to assess managed care plans. NCQA evaluates health plans on more than 60 standards, which fall into five broad categories:
Unity Health Insurance has maintained the highest accreditation status from NCQA since first becoming accredited in the year 2002. This rating means that Unity meets or exceeds rigorous requirements for consumer protection and quality improvement.
To determine how a health plan ranks, NCQA conducts rigorous site visits, and requires plans to meet or exceed national and/or regional performance in their Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®*) and Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®**) results.
