In a competition to see whose employees could lose the most weight, Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital & Clinics (SPMHC) took the cake but in this case didn’t eat it. With 46 employees shedding a total of 346 pounds for the highest overall percentage of weight lost, SPMHC ”whipped” Unity Health Insurance .
As the biggest loser, SPMHC had the honor of selecting the Good Neighbor Clinic as the recipient of a combined $500 donation from SPMHC and Unity.
“It’s been fun to challenge Unity in a way that helps improve the health of our employees,” said Larry Schroeder, SPMHC’s CEO. “I’m proud of all staff members in this program and the efforts of the Employee Wellness Committee to make it such a success.”
The 16-week competition began in January with 138 motivated employees willing to take on the challenge to attain a healthier weight and defend their organization’s honor. By the final weigh-in on May 2, participating SPMHC and Unity employees lost a total of 567.6 pounds.
“I’d like to congratulate Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital & Clinics on being the biggest loser,” said Terry Bolz, Unity Health Insurance president & CEO. “It’s exciting to see such commitment by all of the participants to attain a healthier weight and lifestyle. But, watch out, our wellness committee is currently working on new activities and we’re looking forward to the next battle.”
SPMHC’s employee health and wellness coordinator Kitty Murphy, RN, BSN, was thrilled with the results of the program and employee camaraderie. “The staff here do such a great job of caring for other people every day,” said Murphy. “I find it so inspiring when they take on new opportunities to take great care of themselves and their families through healthier living.”
