Specialty Injectable Program

What is a specialty injectable?
Specialty injectable medications are self-administered injectable medications used on a regular basis to treat chronic conditions. These products often have special storage handling and administration requirements, require patient adherence to a prescribed regimen, sometimes require laboratory monitoring, and generally cost more than $1,000 per month of therapy.

What is the Unity Specialty Injectable Program?

To see if your medication is part of the program, refer to the Unity Formulary ; medications included in this program will be marked with an “SP.” Please note that medications administered in a physician’s office, a hospital or other health care facility are not included in this program.

How to begin receiving specialty injectable medications
1. Call the UW Health Pharmacy specialty injectable intake line at (866)-894-3784.

2. Answer the pharmacist's questions. If you are eligible for the program, staff will discuss delivery and pick-up options with you and contact your health care provider to obtain a copy of the prescription.

This program is not available to members covered under the State of Wisconsin or Local Government plan who receive drug benefits through Navitus.

Any Wisconsin pharmacy in Unity’s participating pharmacy network that can meet the terms and conditions for participation can participate in the Specialty Injectable Program. Pharmacies may contact the Unity Pharmacy Program at (888) 450-4884 for a copy of the terms and conditions and to apply to participate.
