Weight Watchers® Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to be a Unity member in order to participate in and receive reimbursement for program participation?
A: Yes. You must be a current Unity member when you begin Weight Watchers® as well as when you complete it.

Q: How much can a member be reimbursed for this program?
A: You will be reimbursed for your weekly meeting fees or Weight Watchers® online fees up to your Fitness First & More program maximum.

Q: Can a member be a part of Weight Watchers® for any six months of the year, or does enrollment in Weight Watchers® have to be continuous?
A: Once you go to a Weight Watchers® meeting or begin the online program, you have a continuous six month period for which you can be reimbursed. You cannot complete two months in January and February, and then complete another two months starting in July.

Q: What are the time requirements to get reimbursed?
A: You must attend a minimum of 10 meetings during your six month period or participate online for a minimum of six months.

Q: Do members have to complete their six months within the same calendar year to be reimbursed?
A: No. As long as you are an active Unity Health Insurance member at the end of your six months, you will be reimbursed up to your Fitness First & More program maximum, even if your meetings run into the next calendar year.  Your reimbursement will be paid in the calendar year that you complete the six months.

Q: Can a member switch from Unity to a different insurance company in the middle of the Weight Watchers® program and still be reimbursed?
A: No. You must be a current Unity member at the end of the six month period to be reimbursed. This means that if you start Weight Watchers® in September (so your six months would end in March), but you switch to a different insurance company on January 1 of the next calendar year, you will not be eligible for any reimbursement.

Q: When will a member be reimbursed? If you complete the minimum of 10 meetings after three months and decide to stop going, will you be reimbursed at that time?
A: You will receive your reimbursement on the Fitness First & More quarterly payment schedule based on the submission of your completed documentation. Documentation cannot be submitted until your minimum six month period is completed.

Q: Why was Weight Watchers® selected?
A: Weight Watchers® was chosen because there have been controlled scientific studies evaluating Weight Watchers®.

Q: Do you need to be 18 years of age or older to participate?
A: Dependent children age 10 through 17 are allowed to participate. The Weight Watchers® organization requires written medical permission for children under 17 years of age to join and prohibits membership for children under the age of 10.

Q: Is there a limit to the number of family members that can participate?
A: No, all family members insured by Unity over the age of 10 can receive reimbursement, as long as each family member is paying their weekly fee.  Please note that reimbursement is limited to your yearly Fitness First & More program maximum.

Q: How does lifetime membership work? If lifetime members don't have to pay a weekly fee, how do they participate in this program?
A: There are two types of lifetime members:

Q: What happens after a member completes their six months? Can they participate in the program again?
A: You can continue to be reimbursed through the Fitness First & More program up to your maximum each calendar year.
