Flu Vaccinations For Kids Now Available at Community Pharmacies

Member Newsletter - Issue 3, 2011
Due to recent legislation, pharmacists are now able to administer flu vaccinations to children and adults. Since 2009, Unity has provided coverage for adults receiving flu vaccines administered at community pharmacies in the Unity Flu Vaccine Network at $0 copay. Now we are expanding this program to include children 8 years old and up starting September 1, 2011.

Pharmacists administering the vaccines have established appropriate screening protocols and procedures and have undergone additional training to administer vaccines. Additionally, all vaccines administered by pharmacists in the Unity Flu Vaccine Network are logged with the Wisconsin Immunization Registry so other health care professionals providing care will know that the vaccine has been given.

The Unity Flu Vaccine Network consists of over 300 community pharmacies in Wisconsin that are contracted to provide flu vaccine services to Unity members. Just visit Find a Pharmacy to search for pharmacies near you that are in Unity’s Flu Vaccine Network. Select eligible to provide flu vaccinations as part of your search. These include all Wisconsin locations of UWHealth Pharmacies (beginning September 19th), Hometown pharmacies, Shopko Pharmacies and Walgreens Pharmacies as well as many independent pharmacies.

Coverage requirements include:

Please note: Some pharmacies may not be administering the flu shot for children age 8 and older so you should contact them prior to make sure they offer the service.
