Tools To Make The Most Of Your Health Plan

Accessing Care Away from Home

There may be times when you may need to obtain medical care while vacationing or while you are temporarily outside of Unity’s service area.

How to Access care while on vacation
Follow the steps for Emergency Care or Urgent Care.  Note: For HMO members, follow-up appointments after emergency or urgent care is received, and routine and preventive care, must be obtained from participating providers.

Students away at school
Covered dependents living away from home while attending school can obtain Emergency Care and Urgent Care as needed. For HMO members, routine care and follow-up care must be obtained from participating providers.

Winter away from home
Many Unity members spend the winter months in a warmer climate. While you can obtain Emergency Care or Urgent Care while away from home, HMO members must obtain routine and follow-up care from participating providers. Note: If you are planning extensive travel outside the service area, you should speak with your PCP about how to obtain necessary medical care while you are away.

If you are a POS Choice, Choice Plus or My Choice member, you have benefits for seeing non-participating providers. Please review your plan materials to understand your benefits if you obtain routine, specialty or follow-up care from non-participating providers. For My Choice members, the coverage for non-participating providers is limited to the Fee Schedule.

Note: You may have some out-of-pocket expenses if you use an emergency room or an urgent care facility. Refer to your Schedule of Benefits or Certificate of Coverage (accessible through MyUnity)  for a detailed explanation of your benefits.
