Some medical problems are not life-threatening but do need prompt attention. Some examples include minor cuts, sprains and ear infections.
Steps to take when you need urgent care
Note: If you seek medical care at an urgent care center, you will be responsible for the urgent care copayment (if your plan requires this). Coverage is limited to usual, customary and reasonable charges. Any necessary follow-up care must be directed by your PCP. Referrals to specialists must come from your PCP and be approved by Unity.
For HMO members, if you need urgent care while you are outside of Unity’s service area, and it is during normal business hours, please call Unity Customer Service at 800-362-3310 for prior approval. If your urgent situation occurs during non-business hours, please call Customer Service as soon as possible but within 3 days of receiving the urgent care.
If you are a POS Choice, Choice Plus or My Choice member, you have benefits for seeing non-participating providers. Please review your plan materials to understand your benefits if you obtain routine, specialty or follow-up care from a non-participating provider. For My Choice members, the coverage for non-participating providers is limited to the My Choice Fee Schedule.
