Unity Populates Data for E-Prescribing
Practitioner Newsletter - Issue 3, 2011
Unity is pleased to announce that prescription benefit information, formulary information and prescription claims data are now populated in the Surescripts hub for members with a Unity prescription drug benefit. The Surescripts hub is the universal data hub used by E-Prescribing systems to access information used during the E-Prescribing process.
What does this mean for you?
Having this information populated by Unity enhances your E-Prescribing process by providing the following types of information;
- Prescription Benefit Information: You are able to see your patient’s eligibility and prescription benefit parameters such as copay amounts or deductibles.
- Formulary Information: Prior to making your final prescribing decision you are able to view the formulary status or copay tier status of the medication you are considering for your patient and any prior authorization requirements or other restrictions on coverage. You are also able to view alternatives that may be covered with lower out-of-pocket cost for your patient or be covered without restrictions.
- Pharmacy Claims History: When reviewing your patient’s medication regimen you can review their previous claims history. The claims history allows you to identify gaps in adherence to determine if therapy changes are needed or tips to improve adherence are more appropriate. It also helps you to identify potential medication issues such as drug interactions by providing information on medications prescribed by other practitioners.
Unity believes that providing access to this information during the prescribing process will improve the quality, safety and cost-effectiveness of medication regimens.
Data is populated with Surescripts by Unity only for those members with a Unity drug benefit. Information for State of Wisconsin employees and Managed Medicaid Members with Unity insurance is not in Surescripts by Unity because their drug benefits are carved out to other organizations (Navitus and DHS respectively).
